Mid-Year Book Freakout

How are we already halfway through with 2016 already? This has been a crazy awesome year and I can’t wait for the second half!

Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2016

I honestly cannot even tell you which book that I’ve read in 2016 has been my favorite so far. There have been so many 5-star reads and each of them are so much different than the other!

My top 5 would be:

A Court of Mist and Fury
The Wrath & The Dawn
Six of Crows
Morning Star

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2016

A Court of Mist and Fury is the best sequel I’ve read this year. This is especially true since A Court of Thorns and Roses wasn’t nearly as fantastic without ACOMAF!

Biggest Disappointment

The Glittering Court - Richelle Mead

The Glittering Court

Both of these books were major disappointments for me! I had seen both of these books around everywhere but wasn’t expecting the lack of excitement when reading them!

Biggest Surprise

A Study in Charlotte - Brittany Cavallaro

A Study in Charlotte works for this category, I’m an easy-to-deceive reader so I never see anything coming!

Favorite New Author

One of my favorite new-to-me authors is Renee Ahdieh! Man, that woman write a story! It takes an amazing author to mesmerize a reader with a story within a story! I’m still amazed at the story-telling skills of her books!

Favorite New Crush

Y’all know Rhys is my biggest crush right now! My favorite fan art of him (and all of Maas’ characters) is by this awesome chick Charlie Bowater check out her site here!

Favorite New Characters

The kids over at Six of Crows were all around the best new group of characters that I have met so far this year. Each and every one of them was just so well done.

  1. Noo, I dropped ACOMAF because Tamlin just pulled an 180 in his character traits and I was very pissed at Mr. Maas for that. She completely changed the character, though I suppose considering all he went through was moderately okay? Idk. Everything else in the story was great, though. I love Rhys.

    1. So TBF, I felt kind of the same but my reasoning is we didn’t see anything that was going on with him the whole first part of her being in the night court so there’s no way to tell how he handled everything until we see him again. She definitely kept to character about him being obsessive and her “being taken away” by Rhysand totally amplified those character flaws in Tamlin. I think in that aspect Maas did a great job.

Also, in ACOTAR I totally fell for Tamlin and didn’t see any flaws in him whatsoever cause I don’t think about possessive characters like that til the author brings it to light.

  2. It made sense but I still wasn’t a fan. Of course that in Book 2 the relationship turns possessive and downright unhealthy, but this wasn’t what I remembered from the first book. I guess people change and in this case, so did Tamlin.

  3. Great list! I recently just posted my own and it has very few similarities with yours, which to me is always a breath of fresh air.
Very curious about And I Darken, as a lot of people have been recommending it lately.
