Reading Slump

I’m in need of help. It’s gotten pretty serious.

I haven’t read a full book in just under a week.

I’m officially in a reading slump and I’m struggling to pull myself out 0f it.

Typically, I hit reading slumps right after I read books that leave me with crazy awful hangovers (see: A Court of Mist and Fury), but that isn’t the case this time around.

I was in the middle of reading ‘The Rose and The Dagger’ and I put it down for a few days while I packed and moved from Virginia to Florida last week. I even have a text talking to Caitlynn about why I hadn’t finished it.

And here it is, TUESDAY OF THE FOLLOWING WEEK, and I still haven’t finished that wonderful book.

The kicker is, I’m really excited to finish it and start ‘And I Darken’ but here I am, not finished and reaching out for help.

I need all hands on deck. You guys, I’m depending on you to kick me out of this slump and to tell me to stop being lazy.

But really, what do you guys do to pull yourself from a slump? I could really use some advice right now.

  1. Maybe try a light-hearted or small graphic novels to get you reading again? I’ve been trying that and it’s been working great for me. You might just need a little fluff.

  2. I so know what you mean… I’m ten books behind on my Reading Challenge! And I cringe every time I think about it, and the time I spend not reading. But then again, isn’t reading supposed to be fun and spontaneous? If we keep worrying about having to read a book, will we have the same experience as if we were simply worried about enjoying it?
What works for me is to either move to another book (sometimes a completely different genre works best) or just do other things (watch a movie or tv show, go out with friends, etc.). I find that, after a while, I just end up missing it and go back to reading effortlessly. Hope it helps 🙂

  3. I always read something short and cheesy whenever I’m in a slump. I actually got out of mine today after finish Dreamology in a day. 😊 Also, don’t worry too much about it or put yourself in a schedule. Take your time to enjoy the book, and if you feel like your forcing yourself, it’s absolutely fine to put it down and pick up another one. Or not; you can take a break from reading altogether! I hope this helps, good luck!
