Ok, so I loved The Wrath and the Dawn and was so excited for Shahrzad and Khalid’s story to continue. There were so many great aspects to Ahdieh’s first novel that I knew TR&TD would not let me down, and it sure didn’t!

Ahdieh’s character development is just a phenomenal aspect of her stories. The strength of all of her characters is one of the greatest parts of Ahdieh’s writing. Every character in the book had an essential role and they each are working through different issues of their own. I’m working through the book Flamecaster now and it has made me realize how much I appreciate every character that is introduced actually having a role in the story. I don’t think I like throw-away characters very much, it’s hard enough for me to remember stuff about the main characters!

The Rose and the Dagger was such a well-developed conclusion to The Wrath and the Dawn. Ahdieh truly has a gift for concluding her novels. It is difficult to write a duology well and authors should take note of Ahdieh’s resolution for it! I didn’t feel like there was anything more that I wanted from the story and honestly I feel like it would be reaching too much if Ahdieh tried to make a trilogy out of the series. I’m completely 100% satisfied with the conclusion to the story.

I also appreciate how Ahdieh played out Tariq’s role in the story. By the end of The Wrath and the Dawn I was easily annoyed and wanted to skip all of Tariq’s chapters. In The Rose and the Dagger Tariq had some much more redeeming scenes that gave me the chance to truly appreciate him as a character and see his growth take place.

Overall, this book and duology was amazing and it is definitely a 5-star read! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an awesome, bad-ass female lead with some awesome supporting characters!

‘Til next time!
