Owlcrate Unboxing – August

I’m sure many of you have already heard of Owlcrate. It is a monthly subscription box. Every month you receive 3-5 bookish items as well as a newly published YA novel within this subscription box. The box is $29.99 a month.

I have been receiving Owlcrates since September of 2015. That means I’ve already gotten 11 Owlcrates. I have never been disappointed in this subscription service. I always receive items of equal or greater value to what I paid for the box. Also, it ensures me that I step out of my “box” to try books I otherwise may have overlooked. I am always excited to see my Owlcrate has been delivered. This month was no different.

The theme for August was “Fast Times at YA High.” In this month’s box I received 4 bookish items in addition to a newly published YA novel.

This month’s book is Kasie West’s P.S. I Like You.

Synopsis: Signed, sealed, delivered…

While spacing out in chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds thatsomeone has continued the lyrics on the desk and added a message to her. Intrigue!

Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters—sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she’s kind of falling for this letter writer. Only, who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mysteryand juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can’t always be spelled out…

This contemporary novel is one that I always looked at when I was at a bookstore. Every time I would pick it up reread the synopsis but then put off buying it. Therefore, Owlcrate gave me the push I needed to get this book. I have read another of West’s books, On the Fence and I enjoyed it. So, I have high hopes for this novel. I’m excited to read this book and I think it will be the perfect book to get me out of a reading slump.

Along with the novel I received 5 other bookish goodies:

  1. Decomposition notebook
  2. Eleanor and Park necklace (Owlcrate original)
  3. Golden Trio print by Susanne Draws
  4. Stress Relieving Patterns coloring book by Blue Star Coloring
  5. Hogwarts is my home button by Taryn Draws

This Owlcrate was definitely a great surprise. Honestly, I was a bit weary about the theme this month. However, it fully exceeded my expectations. I especially enjoy that Owlcrate included an original piece that is exclusive to the subscription box. The decomposition book was also a nice addition since it a practical and useful item. I loved this box as a whole.

Next month Owlcrate’s theme is “Darkness.” The September box will center all around dark fantasy. I think this is the box that I am most excited about from Owlcrate. It is right up my alley and I cannot wait to receive it. I know Eden and Caitlynn are also planning on snatching up the “Darkness” box. What about you?

Are you subscribed to any book subscription boxes? If so, which ones?
