So about 3 months ago, Eden posted her review of The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, see the post here, recommending that everyone reads this book so I added it to my TBR list. I found myself not quite as infatuated with it as Eden was so I figured I would post my review to show how I felt about the book.
I have only heard great things about this series between Eden and the bookstagram world, so when I finished It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover I knew that I needed some sort of fantasy book to get through the CoHo hangover, so this is what I picked up.
Ok, so to begin this whole review, I’m going to say that I didn’t by any means DISLIKE the book at all. I thought it was super interesting and just enough action/dialogue/backstory to keep me interested and wanting to continue to read the book.
I found my issue with the book lied within the subtleties that was behind nearly all of the dialogue in the book. I’ve said it before, but I’m a reader for entertainment and when I have to look deeper and have to really think about why people are saying certain things and having to decipher the hidden meanings I don’t really look forward to it as much. I don’t mind it every now and then in books but it was just prevalent in everything all of the characters said, every time, that I just started to get annoyed with it. I prefer to just take things at face value and face-value wasn’t worth anything in this book.
Moving past the hidden messages in the book, I really did enjoy it. Like Eden said I truly felt a connection to every character in this book and after a week of having finished the book I keep thinking about Dream Thieves and how excited I am to get started on that book! So I definitely don’t think it was a total fail of a book for me!
Overall, I gave the book 4.5/5 stars, and I’m definitely going to get started on The Dream Thieves ASAP.
What about you guys, did you enjoy the book or did you have issues with it as well? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
