Yesterday was the start of YALLFest in Charleston, South Carolina. This is our first book convention and we are incredibly excited to start our bookish adventures. We went to the Fierce Friday event put on by Fierce Reads and loved it. We got to meet many of our favorite authors.
We started out our time at Fierce Friday with Jasmine, the sweetest, most well-versed reader we could have hoped to run into. She was a volunteer with the event and was integral in how smoothly the event ran.
Overall, the event was structured in two sections. Half of the authors would sign while the other half of the authors played truth or dare and then they would rotate. Fierce Friday gave us an opportunity to meet Caleb Roehrig (Last Seen Leaving), Kami Garcia (The Lovely Reckless), V.E. Schwab (This Savage Song), Susan Dennard (Truthwitch), Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufmann (Gemina), Jennifer Matthieu (Afterward), Dhonielle Clayton (Shiny Broken Pieces), Scott Westerfeld (Leviathan), Justine Larbalestier (My Sister Rosa), Veronica Rossi (Riders) and Courtney Summers (All The Rage). Every author we interacted with was gracious and friendly.
Eden met V.E. Schwab before Caitlynn and Jenn and proceeded to dissolve into a puddle upon meeting the author she idolizes. Jenn’s experience with Veronica Rossi was the highlight of her day as she got to enjoy and have a conversation with the “Riders” author. And Caitlynn enjoyed joking with Dennard about how complicated her character names are and how Dennard’s parents managed to share the same hometown as us.
Roehrig was the first to sit down to sign books for fans out of all the authors and joked with the fans around him about how he’d perfected all of the authors signatures and would sign everyone’s books for them in place of the original authors. The entire event was laid back and jokes like Roehrig’s weren’t uncommon.
To top it off, halfway through the event everyone began singing Jay Kristoff “Happy Birthday”.
It was the perfect start to YALLfest. If you’re interested in seeing more be sure to check back here tomorrow as well as our Instagram and Twitter (@ThriceRead).
