I know, I know you already saw this tag from Caitlynn this week. The hardest part about sharing a blog with two of your best friends is when they do a tag that you want to do. So, this week I’m being a rebel and filling out the TBR Shame Book Tag after Caitlynn has already posted hers. You can check out her post here.
I wanted to do this tag to a) get my book buying under control and b) motivate me to pick up some of the books that have been on my shelves forever. I’m challenging myself to completing at least 1/3 of these books this year.
Honestly this list was a lot longer than I expected and it’s embarrassing. I need to stop buying books and start reading the ones I already have.

What book has been sitting on your TBR shelf the longest? I tag you to complete this tag!
Quite a diverse selection of books collecting dust on your shelves!

Yes I like a wide variety of books. It definitely helps to have diversity when experiencing a reading slump. (At least that’s what I think) Hopefully I can really make a dent in this dusty pile soon! 🙂

Good luck getting through the list! You should NOT start with “The Cuckoo’s Calling” because then you’ll just want to buy the rest of the series. But then again, the series is just too amazing to NOT read!

Well now you’ve gone and tempted me. Haha. I know I actually can’t believe I haven’t read this book yet. I’ve been meaning to forever but somehow I just have not taken the plunge yet. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yes, sorry for tempting you! But you should definitely keep it in mind 🙂

Thanks. I’m hoping to get lots of reviews written this year based on the size of this list. Haha.

That’s always a goal of mine as well. I can only hope more books read = more reviews.

I can’t wait to read your review of Ghettoside! There are so many good books on your list.

I’ve started it and I’m enjoying it so far. However, I put it down and got distracted so I really need to dive back in. What were your thoughts on it?

I enjoyed it – It was a different take on investigating murders in Los Angeles. Here’s my book review: https://hotshotheadlines.wordpress.com/2017/01/07/book-review-26-ghettoside-a-true-story-of-murder-in-america/

So many great books here (…many of which have also been lurking on my TBR). Hope you enjoy V.E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic series — one of my favs!

That’s actually my next reads. I’ve been putting them off until I had enough free time to devote to them because I know I’m going to want to just read them both back to back.

There are some excellent titles on your list! Best of luck with your challenge. I’m hoping to make a dent in my own TBR this year, too – but the bookshop remains ever the temptation!

Yes! The temptation is too great! Also, I continue to get new recommendations it never stops. I’m hoping to stick with this goal and really get this pile under control. Good luck with your TBR pile!

That’s a lot of books to get through! My TBR list is super long too and I would be kinda scared of seeing it in a list like this one. Yikes… Maybe soon though

You definitely should. Being in the book blog community has influenced me to buy more books than I did previously without even really realizing it. I’ve got to dive into this pile ASAP.

I’m definitely thinking it should happen, as scary as it may be. It’s about time that some of that rusty TBR pile was cleared away anyway. It’s getting dangerously tall and daunting, so why not work on it a bit, right?

That’s a very long list you’ve got there! Good luck with that haha

Ugh, I know. I blame part of it on my obsession with book subscription boxes and reading other bloggers reviews. I need to tackle this mountain!

Hahaha sure sure blame the rest :p it could be worse… Like being to able to pick up books for free :’)

Ugh so true. ARCS definitely make this list longer than normal since I try to read them first.
LikeLiked by 1 person
And while reading the ARCs you keep requesting and buying other books which only makes your list longer instead of shorter with each passing year xD
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes to buying. No to requesting, I haven’t requested any ARCs yet. (That’s a little bit of self control right?) Although I have accepted ARCs. Oh well, I guess I’m going to have to make this my best reading year yet. I guess I need to up my goodreads goal from 80 to 120 😉

Awesome list! How are you reading someone who hasn’t had the big publish yet? I suppose you get that question a thousand times. I am writing a trilogy and on my final draft but struggling with things. Your help could be so great. Drop me a line. Hamish

Amazingly, I’ve never thought about making a to-do list for the start of the year and aiming to complete it. I also have a lot of books. Some of those books are my mother’s so I should finish them up so I can return them. I think I’ll go on a hunt soon through my bookshelves and get a list started. Great idea!

Thanks! When I saw Caitlynn do it I figured it was a bout time I faced the music and set a concrete goal. Good luck!

I think I’ve got a book from about 5 years ago I’ve still not read. I have about 250 on my list and I promised myself, to make sure I’d get at least half of them read by the end of the year, I’d not get any more books this year. So far I’ve got 5 since the 1st. It’s not working out too well…

That’s what always happens to me. I’m always on a “book buying ban” but something always seems to mess that up. I.e. lack of self control. Haha

YAAAAS THIS IS AN AWESOME LIST (and for some miraculous reason overlaps with mine so much). i’m also dying to read I’ll Give You the Sun, Girl with Lower Back Tattoo and Of Fire and Stars. I didn’t like Every Exquisite Thing too much… lemme know what you think of it.

That’s awesome! I’d love to see your tag of shame. Haha. That’s disappointing about Every Exquisite Thing but I’ll make sure to post a review and compare our thoughts!

Ahh, I really needed this tag right now! Seriously, my TBR shelf (both figuratively on Goodreads and literally on my actual bookshelf) is insane. This will be awesome because it will keep me accountable, especially if I have to add an “Edit” at the end to say, “And actually, I bought these ones too…” Going to do this post for myself right now!

You and I seem to have similar bookish tastes. I am always reading around, from historical fiction to contemporary and YA! My TBR of Shame would probably look something like this, but still I have read a few. I can say from experience that The Graveyard Book is a great 1-2 sitting read, and Room is definitely worth the hype. I still have to read anything by Jojo Moyes, but my taste seems to have shifted toward The Ship of Brides, because of World War II.
