The Mid Year Book Freakout Tag

I saw this tag on Tea with Mermaids’ blog and I couldn’t resist. I’ve seen it all over the place and knew I just had to do it. We are halfway through the year and I’m halfway through my reading goal. So, here’s my thought thus far.

Question 1 – The best book you’ve read so far in 2017

I was just talking about this with Eden yesterday. My thoughts on this honestly change a lot. I’ve read amazing books thus far this year. But, I’d have to say that Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor is my favorite book this year. Keep an eye out for our discussion of this book.

Question 2 – Your favorite sequel of the year

Windwitch by Susan Dennard was amazing. The second book in the Witchlands series was incredible. Both Eden and I did spoiler free reviews here and here. Find out why we loved this book so much.

Question 3 – A new release that you haven’t read but really want to

Y’all, there are too many of these to count. Right now I’d have to say A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi. I fell in love with The Star-Touched Queen by Chokshi and I can’t wait to dive back into this world.

Question 4 –  Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

How could I not say Warcross by Marie Lu? Seriously, this book release cannot come fast enough. I need some more of Marie Lu’s writing in my life ASAP.

Question 5 – Your biggest disappointment

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. I couldn’t finish this book. I’ve heard incredible things about Oliver’s writing. But, this book was just not for me. I couldn’t stand the character or the plotline.

Question 6 – Biggest surprise of the year

The biggest surprise for me came from an ARC that I read. Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley is an amazing book. I hadn’t heard a lot about it but now I’m recommending it to anyone and everyone. This book just came out June 6th so make sure you pick it up.

Question 7 – Favourite new to you or debut author

This year we read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and I fell in love with Thomas’s writing. THUG is a powerhouse of a book. The characters and the subject matter were intense and moving. Thomas did an outstanding job and I can’t wait to read more from her.

Question 8 – Your new fictional crush

This is such a hard question. How do I choose? I would have to say Julian from Caraval. His interactions with Scarlett and his wolfish grin were everything.

Question 9 – New favourite character

Question 10 – A book that made you cry

ACOWAR. I just couldn’t with this book. I felt every range of emotions. From tears of joy to tears or sorrow. I cried a lot with this book.

Question 11 – A comic book that made you happy

I haven’t read many comics this year which makes me sad. But, I did really enjoy Guardians of the Galaxy #1 by Brian Bendis. I love that motley crew.

Question 12 – Your favourite book to movie adaptation that you’ve seen this year

I am a loser and I don’t go to many movies. So, I actually haven’t seen a book to movie adaptation this year. That feels crazy to say, but it’s true.

Question 13 – Favourite book post you’ve done this year

I’m going to cop out for this one and give you two of my posts. One is a review and the other is a Thursday thoughts pose. I just can’t choose. I really enjoyed my review of The Bone SeasonI had a lot to say about my feelings for this book. I also was really proud of my Thursday Thoughts about reading styles.

Question 14 – The most beautiful book you have bought/received this year

I adore the cover of The Flame and the Mist by Renee Ahdieh. The colors along with the illustration is beautiful.

Question 15 – What are some books you need to read by the end of the year

Can I just say everything on my TBR? It’s too long to list. You can check out my TBR of shame book tag, here, to find out what’s on it.

Who’s your favorite debut author of the year? I’d love to read more from debut authors.

I am tagging anybody who has not done this tag yet. Make sure to let me know if you do it.

  1. I keep seeing this tag around, but I think I’ll finally use this as an excuse to do it.

I don’t read a lot of YA, but in the adult lit world a couple of my favorite debut authors are M.L. Rio (If We Were Villains) and Caite Dolan-Leach (Dead Letters). 🙂

    1. You should definitely do it. I’d love to see your answers!

Thanks! I’m always looking for adult fiction recommendations. I don’t get a lot of them but I love adult fiction. I’ll have to check them out. 😁

  2. A great debut I just read, was Aftercare Instructions and was totally blow away by Pipkin’s style. Really great book. Words in Deep Blue totally won my heart, and I am now trying to get everything and anything Crowley has written. Great tag.
