Book Buying Habits Tag

Okay guys, I have a book buying problem. We should all be aware of this. Though I’ve gotten better I still can’t resist adding to my collection. So, what’s a better tag for me to do than one all about the act of buying books.

Where do you buy your books from?

I buy from a variety of places. When I have the opportunity I buy from locally owned bookshops. However, I hate to say it but I often buy from Amazon.

Do you ever pre-order books and if so, do you do this in-store or online?

I usually try to preorder books. Usually I will preorder on amazon so that I can receive it the day it comes out.

On average, how many books do you buy a month?

I’ve gotten better. I would say I’m probably down to anywhere from 3-7 books a month. It just depends on releases and if I have extra time to peruse a bookshop.

Do you use your local library?

I don’t use my local library. I like to collect books. So, using the library typically isn’t my go to choice.

If so, how many do you borrow at a time?

N/A.

What’s your opinion on library books?

I love libraries. When I was younger I adored going to the library. Even though I don’t use libraries as much as I once did I still really love and appreciate them. They are a wonderful addition to any community. I am a huge fan.

How do you feel about charity shop/second hand books?

I enjoy second hand books and bookshops. I really love the treasure hunting aspect of them. You can find some real gems in them.

Do you keep your read and TBR pile together/on the same bookshelf or not?
Yes, I keep all of my books together on all of my bookshelves. I prefer to have them all together rather than Speer aging between deaf and TBR. It’s easy to be in denial about my TBR then. Right?

Do you plan to read all the books you own?

Most of them I do plan on reading. I will say that there are some books that I definitely need to unhaul. Hopefully, I will get a chance to do that soon.

What do you do with books that you own and that you’ll feel you’ll never read/enjoy?

When I was younger I was much better about unhauling than I am now. But, I generally take them to a second hand bookshop.

Have you ever donated books?

Yes I donated a lot of my children’s books when I moved out for college.

Do you feel like you buy too many books?

It definitely depends on the month. Lately I’ve been doing well. Other months I know I bought too many books. It definitely ebbs and flows.

Where’s your go to locally owned bookshop? I would love to get ideas for my next bookish road trip.

    1. I could add to that: “Hi, my name is Kate and I buy the same book multiple times, because the other covers were so beautiful, too. For example, I own 5 copies of the first Harry Potter book”

    2. Oh, I could easily join. “Hi, my name is Kate and I buy the same book multiple times, because the other covers were so beautiful, too. For example I own five editions of the first Harry Potter book”

  1. I too have a book buying problem. I generally get most of my books from Half Price Books. There is a small local bookstore near me but I don’t go there often because they don’t really have a selection of YA books to get.

  2. OMG I totally envy you! Buying only 3-7 books a month! My flat has become book overload. As soon as I get my paycheck its off to the bookstore! Which is to say that with each trip I come hope with 5 books (on a good day, but on my weak days it can be all the way up to 10 books!). That’s 30 books a month! Same here, I’ not big on using my local library for books. I like going to the library with my own books just to read in the comfy chairs!
Also, I will confess that I buy for covers! Anything that looks pretty or has flowers on it and you got me ! I love going to the bookstore and finding pretty additions to my collection!
    Great discussion post!
    Happy book buying! 🙂
