Top Ten Tuesday – Series I’ve Been Meaning To Start But Haven’t

So Eden and Jenn (specifically Eden) get real offended when I don’t pick up a series that they recommend me to read. It’s not that I don’t want to read them, neither of them have led me astray so far and I totally trust their judgement… It’s just that my TBR is already SO LONG and there are so many great new releases that I want to read ASAP. This leads to a laundry list of book series that I haven’t picked up yet and have totally meant to. Many of these series I have already even gone ahead and purchased because I trust their judgement so much, I just have to get to them!

Thanks to the Broke and the Bookish for hosting the Top Ten Tuesday tag, you can find their post here!

10. Burn for Burn by Jenny Han

9. Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin

8. Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

7. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

6. Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan

5. The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

4. The Young Elites by Marie Lu

3. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

2. Unwind by Neal Shusterman

1. Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson

Are any of these books on your list? Which one should I definitely get to next??

  1. The Magnus Chase books have been such a let down from Riordan. It’s so disappointing because I know he can do so much better. Of course Percy Jackson was amazing but the Kane Chronicles were even better. Makes me sad face that the new series doesn’t meet the same standards.

    1. Oh no! That’s not good and I was looking forward to these so much because I love Norse mythology! I still haven’t read the Kane Chronicles yet, so maybe I’ll interchange them. 🙂

    1. Eden and Jenn both loved Wolf by Wolf and I’ve heard so many great things about it, too! I’m pretty sure I started TYE a long time ago and just got distracted from them so I’m ready to get back to them.

  2. Falling Kingdoms, Wolf by Wolf, The Young Elites & The Kiss of Deception—> Same here! *sobs* also started Mistborn, read & loved the 1st book, def need to get back to finishing that series. Just like you, I’ve also gone ahead & purchased most of these because I trust those that recommended them to me smh LOL!

  3. The Kiss of Deception is a gem amongst YA fantasy in my opinion. It’s really well written, just in terms of prose alone. Shadow and Bone I just read last month and loved, so I highly recommend that one as well!

I’ve got Magnus Chase on my TBR list as well and I’ve been dying to get to it, but I feel like I need to catch up on my Rick Riordan backlog before I do.

Falling Kingdoms is my one vote to avoid. It’s really not well written at all. I am currently dragging myself through the first sequel with a buddy read group on Goodreads, and none of us are enjoying it all that much, nor did we enjoy the first.

    1. That’s awesome to hear about Kiss of Deception! When I first saw it I was really excited to get into it so I’m glad you recommend it.

One of the other girls started Magnus Chase and there’s still characters from previous Riordan books so I’ll have to do a complete refresher of all of the books or re-read the all the current books.

Eden also felt the same way about the first Falling Kingdoms book but I just figured I had to see what was going on with these books because there were so many of them out and I figured how could a bad series continue for so long (especially in YA)?! Thanks for the heads up!

  4. Wolf by Wolf is high on my list. Sounds like such a unique concept!

I have only read Shadow and Bone on your list but it was years ago and I hardly remember it. Probably should reread it at some point.

I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about the Mistborn series as well!

    1. I’m right there with you on all of these! I’ve heard that Shadow and Bone is a great book and so many people were surprised to hear that I didn’t read it before Six of Crows, but I’m definitely more excited to read it now.

  5. Hi Caitlynn, I have a few of those on my TBR list. I’ve recently finished Mistborn: The Final Empire and can safely say I enjoyed it 🙂 I’d love to get started on Falling kingdoms just because the cover looks so great. But I have too many books to read and not enough time…

  6. Mistborn is a great series, but I like Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive even more. His writing and characters are much stronger here, and if you’ve read Sanderson before (which it looks like you have), Stormlight is a great series to get into now, especially with book three coming out in November! But the Mistborn trilogy is excellent in its own right — I just found the pacing and writing to be a bit tough at times.
