So, I had so many ideas to do with this back to school top ten freebie! My list is going to consist of the top ten best books to read in middle school!

I’m a middle school teacher now so I have to know what to recommend to the kids when they ask, so this list is perfect for me! I’m not going to do this by grade-level or anything, just best books to read in middle school in general.

10. Divergent by Veronica Roth

9. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle

8. Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan

7. The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

6. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume

5. Bridge to Teribithia by Katherine Paterson

4. The Outsiders by S.E. Hilton

3. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

2. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

1. Wonder by R.J. Palacio

  1. Holes by Louis Sachar
The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Foster (though I’m hesitant to suggest it because even though this book was so much fun the sequel was awful and made NO sense!)
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray
The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell
The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
    Rules by Cynthia Lord
    The Giver by Lois Lowry
Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan
The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi

  2. Ahhh, “The Outsiders” is my favorite book. It should definitely be required reading in junior high/middle school. Your list is pretty good, but I would disagree with the Percy Jackson book.
