8 Books Series I Never Finished

So, there are a lot of book series that I have started but never finished for one reason or another… Today, I wanted to figure out why I never finished the series and see if I probably ever will.

1.The Young Elites by Marie Lu

So with the Young Elites, I apparently started this series (and made it to the second book) but I have no memory of reading it whatsoever. I definitely 100% plan to finish this series.

2. Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Rick Riordan books are a touchy subject for me. I absolutely love them, but now that it has been so long since I have read a book of his I have forgotten all of the characters. If you have read a Riordan book you know why this is an issue… He likes to use every character from previous books in his stories, I can’t even start Magnus Chase because it builds off of Heroes!

3. A Song of Fire and Ice by George R.R. Martin

Once George figures out if he wants to release the next book of the series, I might pick these back up, but I’m not committing that much time to these huge books if I’m going to have to wait a million years… I’m looking at you Rothfuss as well…

4. The Naturals by Jennifer Barnes

I really, really enjoyed this series when I first read it, which was a longgggg time ago. Barnes has released two more books in the series and I think I will definitely reread and finish the series.

5. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I still haven’t finished Winter. I know… I suck. I will finish it though.

6. The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

This situation is the same as my Young Elites situation… I apparently started this book, but I have no memory of it whatsoever… I want to read it because I love Bracken and her work.

7. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

I’m slowly making my way through this series and I’m loving every second of it. I love that I don’t have to binge-read these books to remember what happened in them.

8. The School of Good & Evil by Soman Chainani

I loved this series and I recently found the fourth book as a signed first edition in Books-A-Million, so I will have to pick up the 2nd and 3rd book before YALLFest when I finally get to see Chainani.

  1. I have this weird notion that I HAVE to finish every book I start…because, otherwise, the time I put into the book will be a waste. I have to figure out the ending. That being said, I don’t feel the same way with an entire SERIES. The only series I never finished was Divergent…I just felt no emotional attachment to the characters, so I wasn’t interested to see what happened next. Oh well! 🙂

    1. I think my main problem was having to wait for books of a series to come out when I started the series. I almost always finish the book I pick up, it’s those series that take a year or two before the next book comes out that I have problems with. 🙈

  2. I don’t think anyone can claim they finished Ice and Fire. It’s not as if they can. I’ll say this, a big reason why some are giving up on the series is the ridiculous wait. Readers want something, and they’re not getting it.

  3. Oh my god, I feel you on Rick Riordan. I read the whole Percy Jackson series forever ago when it first came out and now I want to read his other books but ugggghhhhh. I don’t remember anything! I’ll have to read the Percy Jackson series again and I just don’t know if I have it me 😬

  4. I love purchasing new series that just came out where only the first book is released, but then I also love discovering an old series that has all the books out and I can get them all at once and not have to worry about waiting for the next ones!

  5. I don’t think you nessecaraly need to read the previous series to understand the Magnus Chase books, there separate series in a different mythology, just minor connections and appearances from the characters Annabeth and I believe Percy as well.

I recently started The School for Good and Evil series and I’m going to be starting book three soon. I would love to meet more authors and get signed books but because I live in a state where not many book tours come and in a small town so we don’t have a Barnes & Noble and no place to buy signed books.

  6. I simply have to reread all R.R. Martin’s books at one point. I started reading them once, in Dutch. Now I bought them in English since my mother practically claimed the Dutch ones and.. Well, I just feel like I need to reread all those monsters in English now.
*sigh* That’ll be a huge battle, haha.
