Wednesday Wishes

I’ve been a slacker.

The last few months have been brutal on me. I’m not reading as much as I’d like and that’s simply because I don’t have the time or energy to read as often as needed.

Which inspired me (well, Jenn did) to do something different.

As readers we’re constantly changing our goals, so for the first time in a long time, I think it’s time for me to start setting some new ones.

Goal #1 – Read at least six books a month

This sounds ridiculous, but I already have to read one book a week for the discussions. I’ve been struggling to read outside of our discussions (this is mostly because I’m so sleepy all the time) and if I force myself to complete at least six books a month I don’t feel like I’m really stressing it.

Goal #2 – Different authors

I’m one of those people who will support you all damn day if I love your writing. Honestly, Tahereh Mafi could right a garbage novel (not possible) and I’d still buy every book she puts out after it. The point of all this is to say that I need to read more authors that I don’t know. From now on, I’m going to try to read one book a month from an author I’ve never read previously.

Goal #3 – Read for pleasure

A lot of the time, with the blog and everything that is currently going in my life, I read because I know I need a review or to be prepared to discuss with Caitlynn and Jenn. I rarely read just to enjoy it anymore. This should probably be goal #1, but I’ve got to get back into reading before I can actually enjoy it.

That’s it for now. I didn’t want to make too many goals as I would feel awful if I didn’t manage to meet each of them.

What are some of your reading goals? Do you share any with me?

  1. Kudos on these great goals! I’d love to read more per month. 6 is too many for me at this point in my life. There are a lot of other things that require my time.

I’m actually pretty good with reading different authors. I generally don’t read series all in a row. I like to mix things up. Though sometimes that require re-reads before getting into sequels. :/

And reading for enjoyment hasn’t been a problem, as far as I can remember. I’ve kind of only started the blogging part of things, though. So now it’s something that I’ll be keeping my eye on thanks to you!

  2. I also need to be better about reading new authors! Although I just read my first V.E. Schwab novel and felt positively MEH about it so that’s not inspiring 😓

  3. To read on my train commutes – one and a half hours a day. Also, I’ve selected books that I actually want to read and poetry manuscripts or short stories with one full-length novel. That way I can take my time reading the novel and still have content to review.
