Thrice Read’s YALLFest Schedule

YALLFest is right around the corner. The event we’ve been waiting a year for is almost upon us. So, we thought we would give you a run down of what our plan is. Of course, with all conferences things are always subject to change. But, ideally this is what we hope to do.

Friday:

  • 4:00 pm Fierce Friday:
    •  John L. Dart Library 
    • Presented by Fierce Reads.Presented by Macmillan Fierce Reads.
      YALLFest goes uptown! Join a select group of best-selling YA authors — for this special Friday preview event hosted by Macmillan Fierce Reads — featuring book signings, giveaways, crafts, games, and banana pudding from Rodney Scott’s BBQ! Authors participating include Marissa Meyer, Kami Garcia, Tomi Adeyemi, Roshani Chokshi, Stephanie Garber, S. Jae-Jones, Caleb Roehrig, and Hilary Reyl.
    • Pre-registration is required for this event.

Saturday:

  • 10:00 Opening Keynote: Patrick Ness and Renee Ahdieh
    • Charleston Music Hall
    • PRESENTED BY PENGUIN TEEN.
      Bestselling and Carnegie medal-winning author Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls) will be flying in from London to take part in the fun and will be featured in a ticketed discussion of his latest book, Release, with #1 New York Times bestseller, Renée Ahdieh (A Flame in the Mist) during the afternoon.
  • 11:00 Authors as Fans
    • Charleston Music Hall
    • Moderator Veronica Roth with Leigh Bardugo, Renée Ahdieh, Sabaa Tahir, Stephanie Garber, and Victoria Aveyard
      Cosplay is encouraged for this panel, which will explore what you loved as a kid and/or what you love now, and how that informs your writing and creativity. Spoiler: at least one author will come dressed as a Malfoy.
  • 12:00 – LUNCH!!!
  • 1:00 : I’ll Take Quidditch 
    • Charleston Museum
    • PRESENTED BY PENGUIN RANDOM HOUSE AUDIOCan you list every Hogwarts professor by magical subject? Identify your favorite YA classic by its main character? Test your knowledge in this bookish game show, competing head-to-head with Jesse Andrews (The Haters), Rhoda Belleza (Empress of a Thousand Skies), Cindy Pon (Want) and Marie Rutkoski (The Winner’s Trilogy) in categories like “Expecto Patronum,” “From Book to Screen,” and more, using audio clips from Star Wars™Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and other popular audiobooks. Legendary YA audiobook narrator Jorjeana Marie will host, selecting a few lucky audience members to compete onstage as contestants alongside the authors!
  • 2:00 Genre Wars: Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy
    • Charleston Music Hall
    • Moderator Dhonielle Clayton with Marissa Meyer, Joelle Charbonneau, Marie Rutkoski, Laini Taylor, Brendan Reichs, and Sarah Beth Durst
      Star Trek or a trek to Mordor? Battle school or a school for witchcraft and wizardry? Sci-fi or fantasy? The debate dares authors to make a case for their favorite.
  • 3:00 Spotlight on Angie Thomas and Becky Albertalli
    • Charleston Music Hall
    • One of the biggest young adult debuts of 2017 is Angie Thomas’ The Hate U Give, a story about race and police violence told through the eyes of a teenage African-American heroine. The book has been on the New York Times bestseller list since February. Angie will team up with Becky Albertalli, whose debut Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, exploring the pitfalls of a first same-sex romance in its hero’s coming-out drama, is on its way to the big screen from 20th Century Fox.
  • 4:00 Ever-Expanding Universes
    • Charleston Music Hall
    • Moderator Leigh Bardugo with Cassandra Clare, Soman Chainani, Margaret Stohl, and Maggie Stiefvater
      Spin-offs. Companion worlds. Shared universes. Authors create worlds and then spend an entire series exploring them. Explore the creative process that allows authors to keep it all straight, even as their worlds grow beyond what they first imagined.
  • 5:00 Royalty & Political Schemery
    • Charleston Museum
    • Moderator Renée Ahdieh with Victoria Aveyard, Tomi Adeyemi, Danielle Paige, Sabaa Tahir, and Rhoda Belleza
      When you play the game of thrones, you win or … well, you know. Royalty! Intrigue! Cunning! Power! These stories have it all.
