20 Questions Book Tag

You guys, I’m in a reading slump. So, I found this fun tag on Riana’s blog. I really loved the questions for this tag. I’m tagging everyone that reads this post!

1. HOW MANY BOOKS IS TOO MANY BOOKS IN A SERIES?

I think this totally depends on the series and where it is heading. I would probably say that anything after 5 books is probably too many. There are definitely exceptions. However, by that point most books have gone off track or become repetitive.

2. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT CLIFFHANGERS?

Cliffhangers always get me. They force me to continue reading right then. However, I also hate cliffhangers. There is nothing more frustrating than finishing a book with a cliffhanger and not being able to continue right away with the series.

3. HARDCOPY OR PAPERBACK?

Paperbacks are much easier to read for me. Yet, I prefer hardcovers. That is mostly what I buy.

4. FAVOURITE BOOK?

This is such a tough question. I would have to say Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

5. LEAST FAVOURITE BOOK?

Vinegar Girl by Anne Taylor. Just check out my review for it to find out why.

6. LOVE TRIANGLES, YES OR NO?

This is another one of those questions that there is no hard and fast rule. For the most part I feel as though love triangles play out as predictable. Yet, other books do it really well. So yes, I’m going with the cop out answer of it depends.

7. THE MOST RECENT BOOK YOU JUST COULDN’T FINISH?

Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver. I absolutely hated every character in this book, so it made it impossible to finish. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.

8. A BOOK YOU’RE CURRENTLY READING?

The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee is a book I’ve been reading for a while now. I really enjoy the story, but I’m just in a bit of a slump.

9. LAST BOOK YOU RECOMMENDED TO SOMEONE?

Dear Martin by Nic Stone has turned into a book that I recommend to anyone and everyone. It is seriously an amazing book with such an important story.  I would highly recommend it.

10. OLDEST BOOK YOU’VE READ?

This would probably be The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, which I had to read in college.

11. NEWEST BOOK YOU’VE READ?

Long Way Down by Jason Reynolds? I think this is the newest book I’ve read. It was another amazing book.

12. FAVOURITE AUTHOR?

How could I not choose Leigh Bardugo?

13. BUYING BOOKS OR BORROWING BOOKS?

I always buy. I am very reluctant to borrow.

14. A BOOK YOU DISLIKE THAT EVERYONE SEEMS TO LIKE?

There is nothing that immediately comes to mind for this question. I would probably have to say The Mortal Devices series by Cassandra Clare. It definitely was not my favorite series.

15. BOOKMARKS OR DOGEARS?

Bookmarks. Always. Bookmarks.

16. A BOOK YOU CAN ALWAYS REREAD?

There’s a couple: Harry Potter and To Kill A Mockingbird are two that I can always go back to at anytime.

17. CAN YOU READ WHILE HEARING MUSIC?

Nope not at all. Unless it is just instrumental music. If a song has lyrics it is way too distracting for me to read.

18. ONE POV OR MULTIPLE POVS?

This depends on the story and how the different POVs are handled. There are some books that do it perfectly. Others kind of miss the mark for the POVs.

19. DO YOU READ A BOOK IN ONE SITTING OR OVER MULTIPLE DAYS?

Usually I read books in one sitting. Right now I’m in a slump so this book has definitely been spread out over multiple days.

20. ONE BOOK YOU READ BECAUSE OF THE COVER.

Covers definitely draw me in. Despite the cover being the first reason why I pick up a book I’ve found that cover buys tend to just sit on my shelf. So, I can’t remember a book that I’ve read recently just based on cover.

  1. I never read Before I fall but I did see the movie adaptation and if the book is anywhere near as bad as the movie, I can’t blame you for not finishing it 😂😂

  2. It really depends on the way the story is being told for me. If there’s one main storyline that is being told then I think 6 books is enough but if each book has it’s own main story then it could be endless!

  3. When you said you were tagging everyone that read this post I was going to do it, but it turns out I already did it the last time you posted it haha 😂

I even compared the answers and they are pretty much the same! And according to the folders it was Jenn that did it both times 😀 I am glad I am not the only one that can’t remember all the posts I’ve done (unless you did it on purpose haha then I guess its just me)

Anyway – are you in a slump because you are trying to get through The Dazzling Heights? Or are there other factors? If its The Dazzling Heights then you might want to try starting a new book that is an easy read to get you back in the mood and then going back to The Dazzling Heights. Just a thought 🙂 Good luck!

  4. How many books is too many depends 100% on the series to me. At a certain point I had to nix the rest of the Robert Jordan clones of each other since they were all the friggin same to me even though I had liked them at the start. I stopped reading the Laurell K. Hamilton Merry Gentry series when she just kept killing off the good characters to sort of add tension (seriously, the books were complete cheerful porn-plus-magic of all sorts, and she had to add more tension by kiling off good guys??) If it’s good and keeps going forever I’m happy, but if it isn’t, it can stop.

  5. I can’t say I have a specific number of books for “too many” books in a series, but I have learned that books series that don’t have a finite number meaning they are currently planned to go on indefinitely. These can ended up being very disappointing. In fact they are almost doomed to be so.
