Sarah J. Maas Announces Debut Adult Series for 2019

After continuing to be a top figure in young adult fiction, Sarah J. Maas has just announced that she will be publishing an adult fantasy series. As a fan of Maas’ writing I am super excited for this new series.

Maas announced her news yesterday, May 16th, via Instagram and Entertainment Weekly post. Within the post she mentioned that the series is near and dear to her as she has been working on it for several years. For fans of her YA series she offers assurances, “good friends with Aelin and Feyre” (Entertainment Weekly)

I, for one, cannot wait to see where this series goes. Maas mentions that it is similar to the worlds of her previous series, but with an updated setting featuring technology. I am definitely intrigued by this description. Though we don’t know a lot about the series we do know that the story will follow a female, half-human, half-Sidhe protagonist, Bryce Equinlan, who is out for revenge after her best friend is murdered.

One of the reasons I am greatly looking forward to this novel is because of Maas’ writing style. Personally, I believe that her writing and her voice lends itself more to an adult audience. She definitely pushes the boundaries in YA, so I’m excited to see what she can do when those boundaries are eliminated. I am super excited for this series. 2019 can’t come fast enough!

What do you think of the announcement? Will you be pre-ordering this novel?

  1. I’m extremely excited and I agree with you completely, she pushes the boundaries of YA, but I actually really like that she does. I can’t wait to visit her adult worlds!

  2. I just recently got into her stuff and I cannot put it down. Before I even made it half way through A Court of Thorns and Roses I made my mom read it. It wasn’t until I got a little farther did I relies I probably shouldn’t have but she likes the story too. I love the boundary push, I think it makes the story more realistic in way. Plus I appreciate how being a killer or having to go through war doesn’t completely break the characters.

  3. I’ll read anything that comes from Sarah J. Mass (I have not finished Throne of Glass but I will at some point, no judgment) but I’m hoping that at some point that she will come out with the story that I’m hoping for,

  4. I mean, tbh, A Court of Thorns and Roses was pretty adult. I wonder what she will do when she has the full freedom of the adult rating, without kinda being one foot in NA and one foot in YA.

  5. I’m excited about this – I’ve never gotten into ACOTAR because I didn’t enjoy Throne of Glass and subsequent books as much as I was expecting, but my ears always perk up when I hear about adult fantasy series. It will be interesting to see how she adapts her writing style and book creation.
