We are halfway through 2018 and I love that we have done these mid-year freakouts for the past two years now, so we will keep tradition alive by doing it this year!
Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2018
I did a top five last year, and I agree that I think I have to do a top five books so far in 2018, because I have read so many amazing books so far…
- Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman
- Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia
- The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
- Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
- A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2018
I haven’t read a whole lot of sequels this year, but I would definitely say Thunderhead was one of the best sequels I have read, period.
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet but Want To
Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli. I haven’t been at all disappointed by a single one of her books yet.
Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of the Year
100% Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. I cannot wait to read that book… Come on October!
Probably Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. It really wasn’t a major disappointment, it just wasn’t what I expected.
Ready Player One was a huge surprise for me… I heard great things about it, but I wasn’t expecting it to be as fantastic as it was.
Favorite New Author
Definitely Tomi Adeyemi, she blew me away with Children of Blood and Bone.
Favorite New Crush
So I did read A Court of Frost and Starlight, so I feel like it is acceptable to say Rhysand for a third year in a row…
Favorite New Characters
I think Justyce from Dear Martin is one of my favorite new characters that I have been introduced to this year.
Books That Made You Cry
Ugh, Dear Martin… That was a great book.
A Book That Made You Happy
A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.
Most Beautiful Books You’ve Bought So Far This Year
It seems fitting for me to choose the UK hardcover of Legendary, since Caraval was my choice for 2017…
What Books Do You Need to Read Before the End of the Year?
I have had Made You Up by Francesca Zappia on my TBR for a while now, so I would love to read that before the end of the year.
