J’s Mid-Year Book Freakout

You guys, can you believe it’s already June? I know I can’t! This year has not been the best year for me reading wise. But, I thought I would still complete my annual freakout post.

You can check out my previous post here!

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2018

I’m going to have to say that Jason Reynolds’ Long Way Down has been my favorite book of the year. I loved it so much that I read it with my students and they loved it as well. That totally made me appreciate this novel even more.

BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2018

31180248

Technically it’s not a sequel. But, it is a continuation of a series so it counts right? I’d have to say Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli. I loved being able dive back into this world and Albertalli’s writing.

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO

download (1)

Too many to count. The first one that came to mind though was Tower of Dawn. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet because life has gotten in the way. But, I can’t wait to.

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASES FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

25446343

Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. I. Can’t. Wait. To. Read. This. Book.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

227650

Ugh, I would have to say Confessions of a Shopaholic. I loved Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella. So, I was a bit disappointed with this book. I enjoyed it, just not as much as I had anticipated.

BIGGEST SURPRISE

A16QegTlUBL

Wonder Woman by Leigh Bardugo. Don’t get me wrong, I love both Bardugo and Wonder Woman. However, I didn’t want to get my hopes too high to be disappointed. This book definitely did not disappoint.

FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR

29283884

Mackenzi Lee has become one of my favorite authors. I could not get enough of A Gentleman’s Guide.

FAVORITE NEW CRUSH

Sam from  Emergency Contact. I really adored him.

FAVORITE NEW CHARACTERS

34323570

I would have to say Simon from Furyborn. I really like his character so far in the novel. Though, I haven’t finished the book. So, who knows if it will stay that way.

BOOKS THAT MADE YOU CRY

8181KH0VR7L

I hate to repeat an answer. But, how could I not say Long Way Down again?

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

29283884

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue was just perfect. I loved that book so freaking much.

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOKS YOU’VE BOUGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR

This is such a difficult question! I would have to say the UK edition of Legendary by Stephanie Garber. I love the look of this book.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR?

img_0814

Warcross by Marie Lu. How sad is it that this was also on my post last year? But, I definitely want to actually read it!

Are you on track for your goals this year? What are you wanting to accomplish before the end of year?

  1. Long Way Down is definitely on my list!

My ultimate goal is to finish my current Work in Progress (WIP), which is the novel that I started in 2012, before the end of this year. I would love to reach 50,000 words before the story is done. My best friend has already offered to edit it!

  2. Great roundup! I agree, as much as I like Sophie Kinsella, the Shopaholic series is my least favorite for some reason. Love all the standalones of hers I’ve read though!
