2018 Mid-Year Book Freak Out

I know that both Caitlynn and Jenn did the mid-year book freak out tag, so it seems a bit like overkill coming for a third time. However, I’m so far behind that this tag speaks to me on a spiritual level.

I’ve read probably eight books this year, but there are plenty I still want to read. So, I guess it’s time for me to freak out, right?

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2018

17661416

I’ve vacillated a lot this year in what book I think is best, but of the few books I’ve read this one still sticks out most.

BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2018

I haven’t read any true sequels so far this year, but of the books I’ve read that are related to other books, I’d have to say The Case For Jamie by Brittany Cavallaro.

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO

34323570

I continue to hear so much about this book and most of it’s good. I haven’t had a chance to read a truly amazing fantasy novel in a bit and I’d love to have a chance to dive into a brand new world or mythical creatures and magic.

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASES FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

I’m going to steal Jenn’s answer and say Muse of Nightmares. I loved Strange the Dreamer so much and I can’t wait to see where Taylor takes us with the next book.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

I’m currently trying to make my way through this book, but I’m struggling to enjoy it. The characters are very surface level and I’m not a fan of the constant pull to the romance. I’m hoping to finish it soon, but I don’t anticipate my feelings changing.

BIGGEST SURPRISE

I know this book has reviews praising it all over the place, but I genuinely didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did. I laughed, I cried, and at the end I couldn’t shake the characters. This was truly an amazing book and I was so happy for it.

FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR

32333338

I’ve read several of Matson’s books now and I can definitely say that she’s easily one of my favorite authors. I feel like I can always count on her to give me an interesting and enjoyable contemporary when I need it most.

FAVORITE NEW CRUSH

Etienne from Anna and the French Kiss. He’s funny, interesting, and totally sweet.

FAVORITE NEW CHARACTERS

I really enjoyed the characters from The Children of Blood and Bone. They were interesting and strong and there wasn’t a single one that I felt was unnecessary.

BOOKS THAT MADE YOU CRY

Again. Words in Deep Blue was so amazing, yet totally heart wrenching. I cried so much while reading this book and it wasn’t just sadness.

A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

Not because I’ve read it, but because I’m excited to read it.

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOKS YOU’VE BOUGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR

It’s so simple but I love the contrast on it. Plus, my name is included in the title so it gets points for that.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR?

I absolutely loved the first novel in this series and it’s really frustrating that it’s taken me this long to get to the book but I swear I’m reading it this year.

How are your goals going? Are you as far behind as I am? How do you plan to catch up?
