Guilty Reader Book Tag

As reader’s we’ve all got some skeletons in our closets. We’ve done things that we don’t like to share because we’re not proud of it. So, when I saw this tag on Adele’s blog I could not resist it. Not only was I excited to go through the questions. But, I’m excited to see what your answers are!

Have you ever re-gifted a book you’ve been given?

Nope, I don’t think so. Typically I’m not given actual books but gift cards for books instead. So I don’t think I’ve done this.

GUILT LEVEL: LOW.

Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?

I’ve never said that I’ve read a book when I haven’t. However, I have said that I’ve read a book when it’s one that I DNF. I give my opinion on the book despite not reading through the entire book.

GUILT LEVEL: MEDIUM.

Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

Yes, unfortunately. I’ve only done this like once. But, I’ve borrowed from a friend and forgotten about it. It’s especially difficult if you’ve grown apart and aren’t really friends anymore.

GUILT LEVEL: MEDIUM.

Have you ever read a series out of order?

Definitely not. That sounds like my absolute worst nightmare.

GUILT LEVEL: LOW.

Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

No. I can’t stand to know anything about a book before I’ve read it. Even reading the synopsis is too much for me. So, I’m very careful not to give anything away about the books I’ve read.

GUILT LEVEL: LOW.

Have you ever dog eared a book?

Yes. As a kid this was solely how I kept my place in books. I know I was a monster. But, I do not do it anymore. I will go out of my way to memorize the page number of find something to mark my page with rather than dog earing it now.

GUILT LEVEL: LOW.

Have you ever told someone you don’t own a book when you do?

Honestly, probably. I don’t mind lending out to my good friends. But, if my acquaintances ask I don’t like to lend out. I’ve had situations where books have been ruined or not returned. So, I’m not willing to take a chance.

GUILT LEVEL: MEDIUM.

Have you ever told someone you haven’t read a book when you have?

No, I’m never really concerned about what I’ve read. So, I don’t mind telling others what books I’m reading or have read.

GUILT LEVEL: LOW.

Have you ever skipped a chapter or a section of a book?

Yes. I ALWAYS skipped over the scenes in Twilight about the origins of Jacob’s tribe and vampires. They were brought up so many times throughout the books that I started to skip over it rather than reading it.

GUILT LEVEL: MEDIUM.

Have you ever bad-mouthed a book you actually liked?

No, definitely not. I’m pretty open and honest about my opinions on books, even if they are unpopular opinions.

GUILT LEVEL: LOW.

So, what are you guilty of as a reader? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Love this tag! I might steal it for a rainy day.
I think my biggest reader guilt trip is from dog-earing and the like. I don’t just dog-ear my books, I write in them and highlight them and bend them back. I think a well-loved book shouldn’t look pristine, it should look like it’s been read over and over. You should be able to tell which passages the reader keeps going back to over and over again. It should fall open to them and have notes in the margins.

  2. Hahaha you’re a not-guilty reader. And *wince* I think I have a book (educational one) that I haven’t returned simply because I haven’t been back at their place for a while now. BUT I SHALL DO IT. IT SHALL HAPPEN!
