Users spend more time on TikTok than on Instagram

According to an analysis of user behavior unveiled by Sensor Tower, TikTok comes out on top in terms of daily usage time. Globally, in the second quarter of 2022, Internet users would thus spend an average of 95 minutes on the ByteDance application, or more than an hour and a half per day (see image of one). The strength of the Chinese social network: the very short format of the videos and the infinite scroll, which make it possible to retain Internet users on its platform.

In comparison, the average daily time users spend on TikTok is 4 times the average time users spend on Snapchat (21 minutes), more than 3 times the time users spend on Twitter (29 minutes), and almost twice as much as daily time spent on Facebook (49 minutes) and Instagram (51 minutes). For its part, YouTube comes in second place in the ranking with 74 minutes spent on average, by users, each day on the platform.

Instagram is the application most often opened by users

Sensor Tower also unveils a table showing the opening rate of applications each day in the second quarter of 2022. For this ranking, it is Instagram that comes out strong with 39% of users who open it every day. Thus, the social network of the Meta group shows its superiority in terms of engagement. TikTok comes 10 points behind, with 29% of Internet users opening it every day. Facebook (27%) and Snapchat (26%) follow in this ranking.

TikTok in turmoil

As revealed by Sensor Tower in June 2022, TikTok tops the rankings for the number of downloads in the first half of this year. However, this rise could be jeopardized with the possible removal of the Chinese application from the App Store and Google Play in the United States.
